Bringing It Back…

August 10th, 2008
Sun Breaking Through Clouds

I think the cloud may be lifting. Not entirely…heck, some parts aren’t moving at all, but I’m forcing myself to get out of the dump, pick it up and start reaching. So, there’s that. I’m going to add some citrus back to this blog and kick the humor back in.

For some strange reason, me and fruit seem to have history. In my 20s, in the old BBS days, I often went by the moniker of Pineapple Boy, mostly for my love of the pineapple.

And then the oranges here, which you knew about.

And other stuff. (No, I’m not sleeping with cantaloupes…anymore.)

And remember, if someone you’ve never met before suddenly gives you flowers, that’s Lipovox…or maybe your dress is pretty…could go either way.

Try Some Podcasts…

August 10th, 2008

There’s good news and bad news for podcasting. The good news is that there are a great number of listeners of podcasts and the numbers are always growing. The bad news: no one you know is listening to any podcasts. Except me. And you know me.

For those not in the ‘know’, a podcast is like a talk show or news program in a portable format (like an mp3) that you can listen to when you want, usually on the player of your choice.

Businessman seated at round table

Podcasts are one of my favorite ways to keep up with technology-related news. I thought maybe I should give out some propers and maybe grow the number of people who actually listen to podcasts.

I listen to two podcasts mainly and they are very similar. Both are roundtable-type discussions, which I enjoy, simply for the multi-sided nature of these discussions. The first of the two is ‘Elite Tech News’. This is a good group, especially Steve Hodson, who is a grumpy old man. He’s pretty much how I see me in another 15 years. He’s into tech, keeps up, but doesn’t drink the Kool-Aid a lot of these tech guys seem to live on. I dig that.

The other podcast I love is ‘This Week In Tech’. Back before the crapfest channel known as G4 existed, it was TechTV. And it was awesome. The best show was ‘The Screen Savers’ with Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, etc. It was my favorite hour of TV everyday. So, when TechTV self-destructed, Leo built an empire of podcasts, the flagship of which is ‘This Week In Tech’. The grumpy old man on this panel is John C. Dvorak, and yes, he’s my favorite.

So, if you want good podcasts to listen to, you’ve got no excuse now. Go!

Always Remember To Say ‘Thanks’…

August 10th, 2008

I just wanted to take a moment to thank my friends who’ve been kind enough to send me music lately. I appreciate it. Thanks. I’m very much digging on the Katy Perry and the Miley Cyrus albums, but we all know I love the pop tarts.

Two Little Letters That Mean So Much…

August 7th, 2008
EMA Honors Universal Studios Hollywood

I had this idea. Hollywood seems to like rehashing tired, old plot lines into new movies ad nauseum. So take some existing stuff and just add a prefix and you’ve got a whole new movie idea.

‘Curious George’ becomes ‘Bi-Curious George’.

Even better, ‘The Polar Express’ becomes ‘The Bi-Polar Express’.

Conductor: ‘Get on the train. NOW! I love you! I hate you! I’m sorry.’

See? It practically writes itself.

Unfortunately, I haven’t come up with any other titles yet. Just these two really. We could possibly explore other prefixes. There is a whole dictionary of them. If you’ve got a great idea for Hollywood, add it in the comments. I’m sure they’re reading…

"Polar Express" Premiere - Arrivals

And while we’re on the subject of Curious George, what’s up with the guy in the yellow hat? Does he have a name? Is that his name? Also, how has he not been evicted from his apartment building with all the damage that monkey has caused?

Also, on an unrelated note, there are some changes in store for this blog. Minor stuff really, but ultimately, I think the content will be richer and more plentiful with the change. Hopefully, you’ll stick around while I try to get the funny back. I may also have convinced The Wife to blog. We’ll see on that one.
