I was thinking today about starting a second blog. It’s an idea I’ve toyed off and on with. I think I’m getting closer to the reality of it. Anyway, that got me thinking about the different ways people title their blog posts. So here’s a round-up of a couple of my blogging friends and how they name their posts.

One idea I absolutely plan to steal is from EDW. Her blog, appropriately titled ‘The World According To EDW’, is a good read. For her post titles, she uses a song lyric. Sometimes they’re obscure, sometimes they’re blatantly obvious, but either way, it’s cool.

Jami has a unique post title convention also. For her posts on ‘The Very Important Thoughts Of Jami’, she goes all Elmo-style and writes the title in the third person always with her name first, for example, Jami Writes The Alphabet or Jami Talks With Mr. Noodle.

Cinders, back when she blogged more regular on ‘adventures in blah blah land’, always put her posts titles in all lowercase. That may be fairly common, but in my feed reader, it was usually pretty easy to pick out a new post from Cinders.

So, what convention do I use? Ah, that’s easy. It’s the three periods after nearly every title. It used to be a play on when the blog was titled ‘Patrick Says…’. The only time I don’t use the three periods is when the title is a question or an exclamation. Then it’s a question mark or an exclamation point, for example, ‘Hey Is That Acne Cream In Your Pocket?’.

What convention do you use in your titles or do you use one at all?
Share it in the comments.

I got up this morning and showered. I put on jean shorts and a blue shirt. She got up, showered and got dressed. I took the car and got a battery. I came home, picked her up and went to the doctor. We talked a lot in the car, mostly avoiding the subject. I talked about the movie ‘Unbreakable’ which I had seen earlier that week on SciFi. She talked about the oldest and his need for preschool. We got to the doctor and went into the waiting room.

I am behind on both the electric bill and the phone/Internet/satellite bill, not to mention six hospitals and an accountant I owe. I need $200 for car repairs that I don’t have. My student loan people are hunting me down like a dog and we’re a little short around here on groceries.

But I couldn’t be happier today. Because The Wife does not have cancer. It’s a good day, people.

(Can I mention strollers without making you wince? Cause I have those car repairs and they aren’t going to pay for themselves…)

Seems these days, when getting your car fixed, that nothing is under $100. It’s like $100 has become the unit of measure for automobiles. And it really makes me angry. For example, I took the Lumina to Dobbs Tire & Auto to get the battery changed out.

Let me go on a tangent about this Chevy Lumina. Now it’s a beautiful car, don’t get me wrong, but the maintenance is a bear. First, it has ’special’ wheels. They’re a thinner tire…I think it’s like a fifteen-inch wheel instead of fourteen like every other Lumina, so when the tires need replacing, go ahead and add three ‘car mechanic units’ or $300. When the battery has to be replaced, they have to move a bar and remove the washer fluid reservoir, so that’s an extra ‘car mechanic unit’. You can see where this is adding up. I hate that car.

Anyway, so I went to Dobbs and got the battery changed. The best part: they were out of the silver battery and all they had was the $10 more-expensive gold battery. Nearly two ‘car mechanic units’ lighter in the wallet, thank you very much. That’s like the cost of a couple golf bags or something. It’s ridiculous.

How many ‘car mechanic units’ did your last repair cost? Share it in the comments and we’ll have good rant together.

There are some songs you never grow tired of. No matter how many times you hear the song, you can just sing right along. One of those songs is the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s cover of ‘Love Rollercoaster’. It’s frantic and exhilarating. I love it.

Of course, I sing it phonetically. I have some idea of what the lyrics are, but I’m not really sure. So, for your pleasure, I will record here what I think the first verse is. After I’ve put my translation, I’ll go find the actual lyrics and post them. Enjoy the hilarity.

Move a double dip, cause I’m a double dipper.
Upside down on the lip lip lipper.
One, two, one, two, three,
I got a ticket, so ride with me.
Merry go down on a merry-go-round
All is fair, or be fip down.
Let’s go slow, let’s go fast,
Licorice whip gonna whip your ass!

Okay, now for the actual lyrics:

Move it over dad ’cause I’m a double-dipper!
Upside down on the zip-zip-zipper
1,2,1,2,3, I′ve got a ticket so ride with me
Mary go down on the merry-go-round
All is fair ‘n’ a big fair ground
Love go slow, love go fast
Licorice whip gonna whip your ass.

Not as far off as I thought…

The Truman Bank in my building is closing up next month. I don’t know anyone who banks at Truman Bank, but I’m sure they do alright. Anyway, as I was walking by this morning, I noticed they had a candy dish in their waiting area.

And what was in this dish? Progesterone? No, what? No, the candy in the jar was those fruit-shaped hard candy. Not the ones that taste like Sweet Tarts and are fruit-shaped…those are actually kind of good. No. These were those ones that are hard as stone and kind of opaque, but colored.

Maybe you know what I’m talking about…maybe you don’t. Either, Truman Bank should have got some better candy…maybe you wouldn’t be closing that location…cheapskates.

I know you’re wondering what’s going on with the massive amount of pictures lately in posts. Well, the fine people at PicApp are having a promotion and I need to push out love for them to get it. I’ve only got until tomorrow, so bear with me and then we’ll get back to normal posting with the occasional picture. But until then, why not enjoy some pictures of Jessica Alba?

One more thing about the restroom at work…

The room is small; we established that. But the design is such that if you are a passerby walking down the hall and someone opens the door to the john, you can see right into the room where the urinal is. So, if the timing is right, you can see me taking a leak and I hope you brought popcorn and a soda because believe me you, it’s a heck of a show. YAHOO!

Who designed this bathroom: Ronnie Milsap (pictured on right) or Stevie Wonder (not pictured on right…or left…or anywhere really)? Just saying…would it really have been that hard to design in a little partition or something or rearrange the room to prevent this kind of thing? Does the ladies room have the same problem? Okay, it can’t exactly have the SAME problem. Those of you with a biology background know what I’m talking about. But seriously, what’s the ladies room look like???

And remember, people who wear MBT shoes shouldn’t throw rocks…or something…

In more serious news, for those you following the medical drama (and when I say ‘medical drama’, I mean health issues, as opposed to ‘medical drama’ as in ‘Grey’s Anantomy’) with The Wife, she is having more testing and we’re keeping it optimistic.
