Easy There, Benji…
I’m walking. We covered that earlier. But one thing I hadn’t planned on was dogs. I walk the neighborhood around my house, but to change up the scenery, I walk different routes and around to different streets. I mean, with the systèmes GPS, it’s easy to see where I can and can’t go right in my hand. But I’ve noticed that a lot of folks let their dogs hang out on the front porch unleashed. On my own block, I know the dogs. No big deal.
But on other blocks, I’m a stranger and dogs do not take kindly to strangers.
My first question was whether dogs react to pepper spray like humans do. According to the Internet, they do. Look, I don’t want to hurt a dog, but if I’m getting charged and I’m fearing for my safety, I will not hesitate to pepper spray the crap out of a dog. If it’s me or Cujo, Cujo is running away screaming. Sorry, pooch.
Anyway, Amazon.com had a good deal on jogger pepper spray. It has a strap that allows you to keep it at the ready without having to hold it the whole trip. So, now I’m a little safer.

Also for the fact the dogs do not have opposable thumbs means they can’t over power you and use the spray on you.

When I run at the lake, I have mace in my hand. I would hate to use it on a dog, but I’ve come close before. The problem is the OWNERS who let them run free and don’t follow subdivision by-laws.

I carry a few dog treats. That always works for me.
Pizza slices are always popular, too.

I don’t really want to reward bad behavior.
Also, I assume you’re kidding on the pizza slices. I’m trying to lose weight, not gain it.
And seriously, I’m walk light. Carrying a pizza box would definitely hamper my speed…

Dogs are mainly influenced by your smell and your eyes. They get the impression that they could physically damage you because of your smell of fear. You are also avoiding eye contact. The way to stop any dog from barking at you is a two-step process. Firstly, boldly stare into their eyes. Secondly, during the stare, you need to imagine that you are in an abattoir preparing the dog for dinner on Sunday. You no longer emit a smell of fear and the dog will not bark at you. You really have to dispel all feelings of fear to stop your glands from discharging your pheromones through the atmosphere into the dogs nostrils.
