I Don’t Get Shoes…

We’re preparing for a big yard sale this summer. In preparation for that, I had The Wife go through all her shoes and see what she still wanted to keep. Since her unfortunate set of circumstances, her feet have actually shrunk. So half of her shoes don’t even fit.

The shoes are downstairs and she’s upstairs, so I shuttle the shoes up with The Oldest and Steak. They come back with the shoes and one word: keep or sell. We go through, and I’m not kidding here, twenty-five pair of shoes and she keeps half. Half! Half! Who needs that many shoes?

I don’t get woman and shoes. Men need like, four pairs of shoes max:

  • Everyday shoes
  • Black dress shoes
  • Workout shoes
  • Sandals (optional)

That’s it. End of story. So, ladies, how many shoes do you have?
Leave it in the comments.

I have two pairs of everyday shoes (think Chucks), one betterish pair of gym shoes, two pairs of nicer summer sandals, one pair of flip-flop house shoes, one pair of kick-ass comfy shoes only wearable with pants and… I think that’s it. I’m not a shoe hound and I purge frequently.

Scott’s comment reminded me that I do have a pair of water shoes for creeking! Forgot about those.

I admit I always end up finding more shoes in the closet than I thought I had, but I always end up donating them because I don’t wear them. Female family members tend to give me shoes for birthday/Christmas gifts even though they know I’m not a really a shoe person.

Let’s see I have 2 pair of Georgia Boots b/c they’re a must on the farm (& you need a backup when 1 pair is uber disgusting), 2 pair of winter boots, 1 pair each of flats in black and white, 1 pair each heels in black and white, 2 pair of sandals, a pair of tennis shoes, and my motorcycle boots for safety reasons.

I share my “shoe shelf” in my closet with the little one, and her massive pile of shoes takes up more space than mine do. She’s got at least 50 pair! I only buy her shoes when she outgrows them, but apparently all her aunts and grandparents are trying to turn her into a shoe freak at an early age.

Nothing wrong with owning a lot of shoes. I have more shoes than my wife. 3 pairs of Vans skate shoes, 2 pairs of Vans canvas lace ups, one pair of Vans not-quite-high-tops another pair of Vans waiting to become disposable river shoes, a pair of 8 eyelet Doc Martens boots, 2 pairs of Desert Boots (one genuine Clarks and 18 years old, one from Target). So that’s 9 pairs of shoes.

I don’t own a pair of dress shoes or decent hiking boots right now, so I’m actually two pairs down on where I’d like to be.

I dont even know! I have a bookshelf in my closet that is triple stacked on all 5 shelves. I also have an over the door, hook type shoe hanger and there are always shoes in the shoe basket in the family room. If I had to guess, I would say at least 50 pairs. (probably more) I have been thinking about going through and donating some to the shoe-man. He cleans them, sells them (cheaply) to the underprivileged in 3rd world countries and donates the money to drilling clean water wells in Kenya. Cool, huh?!

Like Jenn says above, I always find more shoes than I think I have. My trouble is, I have way more shoes than I ever wear. We get them because we like them and have great hopes of wearing all of them but in the end, we wear 2-3 pr over and over and that’s about it. I have to wear black shoes to my second job, I have to have work out shoes and I enjoy summer styled shoes. I have a ton of slippers too, I’m like Mr. Rogers. Come in the door, off with the real shoes and on with comfy ones. I have a hard time finding shoes that look good on my fat wide feet and are comfortable. I get easily discouraged while shopping for shoes and often leave the store frustrated. I wear shoes long after I should have thrown them away because the idea of shopping for shoes is kind of traumatic for me :(
