Hello Nook! Goodbye Nook!

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

So, I bought the Nook Color. I’d been wanting it for awhile and I had the means through gift cards and credit and such. I wanted the Nook Color mostly for its low price and its ease of rooting. Also, the Nook Color works with Adobe ePub books so I could borrow electronic books from the library.

And for a bit, it was okay. I really only had one complaint. Every so often, it would just randomly start clicking itself. I did some research and found that it could be smudges on the screen. See, the Nook has a heavy glass screen that retains smudges quite easily. And it’s a pain in the butt to clean. But I dutifully cleaned it. But then it just kept doing it and you know, you can clean something so much before you just decide it ain’t worth it.

So I contacted Amazon.com and the Nook Color is heading back to the seller. No need to involve a Brooklyn medical malpractice lawyer or anything. The seller was awesome about me returning it. I now await my Samsung Galaxy Tab!

My Beard Needs Likes…

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

So, for some stupid reason, I thought it would be funny to give my beard a Facebook page. I guess it’s because I frequently let the thing get so long that it seems to have a life of it’s own. Anyway, so far it has 6 ‘likes’. It needs more. Otherwise, it’s just kind of sad. So please go like my beard. It’s updating almost as much as this blog.

Don’t Thank Me On Monday…

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

I have to shake my head sometimes when I see people posting about Memorial Day on Facebook. Frequently, you’ll see people post something like this:

This Monday, think of those who have served and those who have fallen protecting our freedom.

Or from Frank’s RedHot:

Get the friends and family together this weekend and let’s toast to all the brave men and women in uniform. Are you bringing Frank’s to your Memorial Day BBQs this weekend?

While I can certainly applaud the sentiment, Memorial Day is for the dead only. See, it says so right here on the Department of Veteran Affairs website:

Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service.

There are 364 other days to thank me and my fellow service members, including Veterans Day. This Monday is for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Don’t shortchange them on their day.

Also, on a side-note, I effing hate white sales or any other thing businesses use this holiday for that are not at all related to the spirit of Memorial Day. A family barbecue outside your mobile home is fine; selling cars at 30% below MSRP is just opportunistic, jackass.
