They Got Me With The 480i…
Last week, Dell had some specials and one of them was quite good. It was a Vizio 32″ 1080p HD TV. I got it, took it home and set it up. And it’s nice. It really is. But there is a problem. The DVR I currently have from DIRECTV is not HD. I mean, why would it be? I didn’t have HD until now. So, it pushes a signal out at 480i. On a regular television, that would be fine for iCarly or shopping for Caméscopes numériques on French shopping channels. But on this high-resolution monster, it’s look kind of crappy to me.
I need HD.
And of course, that costs more. So, now I’m running between websites trying to figure out my best option. I could go with Charter cable, stay with DIRECTV (at increased cost and renewal/commitment) or jump to the newly-available-in-my-neighborhood U-verse.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.

We may actually be the last people in the US to get an HDTV. Our TiVo is ready, though. It wants to record HD, but since we don’t have the TV, the poor thing is just going to have to wait.

I have always loved TiVo. Got one back when they were the only DVR there was. Nobody can touch that interface. DIRECTV and TiVo keep saying they are working together on a unit, but it’s been ‘in progress’ for years.

Something DirecTV won’t tell you….you can keep your current package (at the same price), but upgrade to HD channels for $10 a month. Does require a two-year commitment, though.

I’m kind of wanting to try U-verse. I’ve heard good things.
