The Standing Desk…

Have you heard of this? Basically, it’s a desk, but instead of sitting, you stand. I saw one once on a consulting job I was working on and fell in love with the idea. I’ve never lost the urge. I’m just concerned about the cost. I’d have to ask my boss for an entirely new desk and that stuff isn’t cheap.

But I think it’s cool. I’ve found that frequently, I think better on my feet. I feel more energized and purpose-driven when I’m not sitting behind a desk. It also makes me feel more active. I’m sure this would probably appear on lists of how to burn belly fat. And I need to lose some weight.

I did find this article over at Lifehacker that really answers a lot of questions one might have about the standing desk. I may have to approach my boss and try this.

I definitely get the better blood flow to brain when standing. my biggest thing would be shoes. The last couple places I worked where I had a desk, woman had to wear dress shoes. These are not usually comfy if they are reasonably priced, at least that I could find. So, I would have to buy a couple pairs of expensive but comfy dress shoes or affordable shoes but be in pain by the end of each day. Not a great choice, IMO

If the boss agrees to this, I’ll expect to see 10 squats (remember…clench the butt), 10 lunges and 25 jumping jacks every half hour. You’ll be a lean, mean office managing machine!

Sitting is bad for your back, too. Not that you have troubles with yours, just sayin’.

I’ve seen a few posts from people who have built their own at home. Still, looks uncomfortable for an ENTIRE day. I think those who did the home versions had them on a jack-like system so they could be converted from standing to sitting when needed.

We’ll see how it goes. I’m getting a standing workstation and keeping my sitting desk for talking with visitors etc.
