Last Christmas, we got a Wii. I figure if the kids are going to play any video games, they should at least play on the console that actually makes you move around a little bit. It’s a fun system. Even I get to play every once in awhile.

Recently, I received Cars Toon: Mater’s Tall Tales to play and review. Well, the kids played and I wrote this review. If the kids could actually write a review, it would just be ‘wheeeee’ twelve times in a row. They dug this game.
The game is based on a Disney/Pixar short where Mater makes up ridiculous stories about his past adventures and tells the stories to Lightning McQueen, who of course doesn’t believe him. So each of the tales becomes a set of games that you play with Mater. You get to pick your own car and there is a deep level of customization you can do including color, body style, accessories and stickers. As you play each of the tales, you earn more coins which allow you to buy bigger and better customizations. And really, it doesn’t take long to get plenty of coins. Both the four-year-old and the six-year-old were able to trick out their rides in no time.

Another thing I liked about the tales is that none of them are exceedingly hard. It’s a good game for little kids. The frustration is only minor and after a little practice, nearly ever level is playable. If that sounds like it won’t keep them busy very long, there are awards to be earned for accomplishing certain tasks. It gives the game some longevity. Also cool is that four players can play together meaning the fighting for game time is reduced. That’s always a plus.
Overall, the game was very enjoyable. The kids have played it at every opportunity they could. (For the record, our kids are only allowed video games on the weekend and only for a limited time at that. But this is the only game they’ve wanted to play in those alloted times.)

Disclaimer: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Disney Interactive Studios and received the Cars Toon: Mater’s Tall Tales Wii game to facilitate my review. So there.
