Bills Suck…
I am a coward.
I know this.
I should answer the phone. When it rings. And the caller ID says ‘toll free call’ or ‘unknown name’. And I know it’s not a salesman calling with term life insurance rates or one of those police groups wanting a donation. I know who it is. And I should answer. But I can’t. I can’t talk to them. They don’t want to hear what I have to tell them. Everybody’s struggling, but we’re in pretty deep here.

The literature all says they want to work it out with you. They want to find a way to help you and still get their money.
My experience has been different. They just want their money. They don’t really give a crap if you don’t have it. That’s not their problem.
So I keep not answering the phone. Maybe I’ll get that thing disconnected.
Yeah. Maybe that’s the answer…

I dont even want to talk about it. At least you have a guaranteed income. sigh. It will get better…..it will get better…..it HAS to get better…….

I recently got a phone call on my cell phone from a collector looking for my brother!!! We don’t even live in the same house, hello!!!

The relatives thing I can almost see. But calling someone’s neighbors just crosses a line where I think violence toward the creditor could be justified.

I have a friend who keeps getting calls for a man with the same name (but different age, hometown, ssn, etc.) as her husband. One time when she explained that yes, her husband is named … but not the same one, that one lives in …. the bill collector asked her why she didn’t just help them find the other guy. Um, cause that’s YOUR job.

I have a friend who manages collections. She swears that if you ask for a manager (her) she is really nice. Mostly, bc people yell at her and her reps all day long. She cuts deals. All the time. Also, she’s a single mom and she struggles so I think she gets it. There are some good people doing that work!
