If you visit my site (and not just read the posts through a feed reader), you may have noticed a new image up next to the blog title. It’s a cardboard box with a smiley face lovingly referred to as Boxy.

I’ve wanted an image up there for awhile. At times, I’ve tried different things. At one time, Opus from Bloom County was up there. It was Voltron for awhile. Other pop cultures characters have also appeared. But Boxy is mine.

Boxy originated at a work conference I attended a couple years ago in Florida. Like my father before me, when presented with paper and a writing instrument, I will doodle. Unlike my father before me, I have no discernible talent except for rocket ships. And even then, I have to work hard to keep those rocket ships from looking like penises.

So, at this conference, I was experimenting with three-dimensional drawing and BAM, Boxy was born. One smiley face later and there you go. So, Boxy is pretty much the only thing in the world that I can draw freehand that doesn’t possibly look like genitalia. Now this Boxy was done in Microsoft Paint, but I still did it freehand.

It will be in the header until I grow tired of it. Welcome, Boxy!
