In Defense Of Christian Bale…

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Christian Bale has gotten a lot of grief over the voice he uses when he’s Batman versus the voice he uses when he’s Bruce Wayne, millionaire playboy. Someone even made this hilarious spoof on the subject:

But really, give the guy a break. Do you know how many people would be trying to figure out who Batman is? They would attempt to gather every single crap of him talking and voice analyze the heck out of it. So, yes, he has to talk pretty different under the cowl. Duh. Now I will agree that sometimes, it does sound like he’s talking with a mouthful of diet pills that actually work, but again, he’s got to disguise the voice.

Anyway, if this is the worst thing fans could find in the new Batman films, I can live with that. These two films are phenomenal pieces of work.

Give The Wheel A Spin!

Monday, May 31st, 2010

So, when The Wife was in the hospital, every day visiting her was an adventure. And not in the good ‘Dora and Boots’ way. It was more like, ‘gee I wonder what her pain level will be today’ except that the game was rigged. It’s like that gigantic wheel they spin on ‘The Price Is Right’. Every day when I’d visit, I’d give it a big spin. The problem was that ninety-six of the slots read ‘extreme pain’, three read ‘moderate pain’ and one read ‘mild pain’.

So, you can see how that would suck.

And now that she’s home, it’s better. Bear in mind, she is still in pain pretty much all the time, but she’s managing and the kids have their mom home, so that helps them.

In other news, I took a blood pressure reading at Wal-Mart. I dont’ need a life insurance dictionary to tell me that 171/109 is bad. I better get this in check quickly.

Bust Out Dat Forty…

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Not an actual picture from the hospital.

So, when The Wife was in the hospital, I would visit most every day. And every day, walking into the hospital, you would have to pass by all the patients who were out smoking. You’d know they were patients because they would be wearing hospital gowns and some would be dragging that wheeled thing with medications on it.

And that’s when the thought occurred to me. I’m all for personal rights and far be it from me to take away someone’s right to light up, but why are patients allowed to go outside and smoke. You’re in a building where the goal is to get you healthy and you’re out there blackening your lungs. Seems kind of silly. I mean, they certainly wouldn’t let the patients go out and kick back with a cooler full of fine Budweiser products. You’d think that was ridiculous, but the smoking thing doesn’t faze anyone?

Hmmm. Weird.

On the other hand, maybe they could try an electronic cigarette or even, you know, quit. But what do I know?

Bike Race Cancelled…

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

So, today it was announced that the Tour of Missouri bike race was cancelled after the state allocated no money for it. I realize this won’t make me any friends in the cycling community, but really I don’t care. The Parents-As-Teachers program was slashed and cut into damn near non-existence. My kid’s school district lost most of the state funding it usually gets and now only 15% of the kids can even go to summer school. So, forgive me if I don’t give a s*** that you can’t have $1 million dollars for a bike ride.
