Fix Those Caps, Man!

If you’re from the Saint Louis area, you probably know that since time began, there has always been an anti-abortion billboard somewhere at the I-55/I-270/I-255 interchange. It’s just a fact of life, like anti ageing cream.

And normally, I could not care less. I can ignore it just like I ignore every other billboard I don’t like. But this time, they’ve gone too far.

WTF is going on with that capitalization? Why have you randomly capitalized words in the middle of the sentence? Is it for emphasis? Because it’s just irritating to me. There are ways to emphasis what you consider important parts of your message. Perhaps you’ve heard of bold? Or even some italics to convey something special? (Okay, yeah, I hate italics too.) But still…

Murdering fetuses? You people are murdering the English language.
Knock it off!

I’m with you. Random capitalization drives me up a wall.

P.S. Your last three sentences made me laugh out loud. Thanks. :D

I think the baby’s name is Baby but the other words I’m lost on. But you know what would be even worse than random capitalization? Quotation marks for emphasis.

Who holds Baby’s “Hand” “During” the “Abortion”?

I did note while driving across Missouri that the billboards seemed to alternate between Jesus/Abortion and advertisements for porn shops. I’d say the ratio was about 1:1.

Actually, I’m seriously offended by the double “??” I often feel I’m on a one man crusade against mulitple exclamation points (!! and !!!) and this is just a slap in the face.

Technically, in the world of Patrick, all punctuation at the end of sentences must be odd-numbered. For example, !! and ?? are wrong, but !!! and ??? are okay. Another example would be the … (note: three) at the end of most of my post titles.
