Workplace Snacking…
Sometimes, it really sucks to have a workplace where a lot of meetings take place. For these meetings, we frequently buy sandwiches and chips and fruit trays and cheese trays from Sam’s Club. And when the meetings are done, these leftover food items become free game for anyone who’s hungry.
Which is cool if you forget lunch.
But terrible if you’re counting calories.
I literally blew past my calorie goal by 896 calories. All the top weight loss products in the world cannot help you lose weight if you don’t keep that calorie intake in control. So I’ll try again tomorrow. You fall off the horse, you get back on.
You may also notice that I’m putting this renewed weight loss effort under the category ‘Forty By Forty‘. Yes, I know that didn’t work last year, but 2009 was pretty darn awful all-around. Maybe it’s 41 by 41? We’ll see…

I try to chew a lot of gum to keep me from eating when I’m not hungry. Hasn’t been working lately…

Snacking is OK if it’s healthy stuff, which is usually the opposite of what loverly co-workers bring to the office. Keep something healthy at your desk for those times you feel like your stomach will implode.

I have this problem as well Patrick. Lack of self control when goodies abound. I also have a new problem in that one of the consultants is always bringing in fruit to share with us. Can’t pass that up, but then I also have a salt craving and bam, there goes the watching what I eat.
I don’t blame anyone else though. It’s all about establishing a routine and a regimen and saying No!
Best of luck on your efforts. I’ll be needing your encouragement back when I hit work again in a week or so.

Thanks for posting again, Patrick
Glad you’re back – and happy to hear about the new found goal setting as well. You can still hit 40 by 40
We have a new person in our area here at the office. Grandma type – she’s constantly bringing in baked goods. ARGH. Not helping the weight control issues here either.
Can’t someone bring in carrot sticks?!?!

I like your post and agree to the unhealthy snacking at work places. All of the working lot is familiar to this problem. Methinks carrying lighter calories food will or eating less will solve the problem. Let’s experiment…
