Sampling My Level Of Crazy…

Not The Wife.

I don’t like to use my personal laptop for work-related projects. But the reason probably isn’t what you think.

So, before these work events, I prepare the PowerPoint presentation. It’s ready-to-go like a diet supplement. Usually, these presentations are pretty graphic-intensive and run really slow on the crappy work computer. So I use my speedy laptop. But not without some serious apprehension.

See, in my demented mind, somehow, I’ll press the wrong key during the presentation and a picture of The Wife birthing our second child will pop up on the screen to a room of 300 people. Now bear in mind, there is no way this can happen. There’s no magic set of keystrokes that will insert an image into a PowerPoint randomly from some directory.

But in my crazy head, I’ll find that magic sequence.

Is it time to request a new work computer?

Yes, but working for a not-for-profit means using the oldest equipment available until it dies.

If you build it, it *will* show……I’m just as crazy as you then!!! I think about that kind of stuff too. My mom uses my home computer where I have stored…some very personal photos of me and well….let’s just say of me. Not good. 8-/

Totally normal line of thinking. Or, maybe I should say, “been there, feared that.”

We make this decision easy; no outside devices can be attached to the LAN.
I’d have the same fears though. Some untoward picture or video accidentally shared with a room full of strangers.

I’ve seen other folks do this though and the problem is usually because they are using their work laptops for personal stuff instead of a personal laptop for work stuff. Can be embarrassing.
