On Turning Forty…
I’d love to tell you I’m excited about my birthday in a couple days, but I’d be lying. I really never thought I’d make it to forty. (Technically, I still haven’t, but let’s assume the next two days are fairly uneventful and without any life-ending situations.) So, yeah, f*ck forty.
I don’t want to be this old. I hate it. I feel like I have to stop listening to the ‘young people’s music’ and start eating more fiber and taking high blood pressure medicine and worrying about dark circles under eyes and going to bed at 8:00pm. I swore I would be dragged kicking and screaming into forty, but it just ain’t going to be like that, because I also don’t want to be the aging hipster. You know that guy. The guy who thinks he’s still twenty-eight, but he ain’t fooling anyone except himself.
So I try to find some happy medium and there just doesn’t seem to be one. I guess the best I can hope for is the cool old guy, but really, I just am not that cool.
Crap. Getting old sucks.

I am about 8 years away from turning 40 and already I could go to bed at 8:00pm every night.

Just think of others who are light years away from where you are….so to speak. You’re married with 2 great kiddos and you own 2 cars and a house! Hello, that ain’t nothin’…I certainly won’t be there by the time I reach 40 (only 4 short years away). I’m just sayin’ yes getting older does suck but atleast you are physically able to get up and go to work on your own two feet. It could always be worse

I think 40 is awesome! And Becca is right…and seriously 40 is the new 30. Really. Also, wish I could wave a wand and make all the bad crap go away. But know I’m wishing that 40 is your best decade yet.

wait a second now, i just turned 40 last week & i’m not reaching for the depends & the lawrence welk CDs yet!
but i didn’t expect to live to be this old, either, and it’s a little dismaying. what do i do now? for now, i’m just going on with being me. and if the bands i like don’t like me tweeting their music ‘cuz i’m old … well, one thing i do have down on this whole fogey thing is sayin’ “f— ‘em”
