Neither Mike nor I are smokers. He has respiratory issues due to both his parents smoking like chimneys when he was a kid. He's also allergic to cigarette smoke. So we're definitely in favor of smoking bans in restaurants, bars, etc. Fortunately all six New England states have such bans in place. On the other hand, he has diabetes and congestive heart failure. His meds and various hospitalizations have cost Blue Cross thousands, but they have never raised our rates. I'm sure this was caused by life choices, eating and drinking too much, being overweight, and such. The only difference between us and the smokers is that what we do doesn't affect others.
