My New Fav Author…
I’ve been a ‘reader’ for a long time. But in all my years of reading, I’ve never really had an author who I would call a favorite. I’ve enjoyed books by a great many authors, but never has one stood out to the point where I read anything they wrote.
That’s not completely true.
Back in the mid-90s, I picked up a couple books from Andrew Vachss and for a time, I called him my favorite author. And he is a great writer. But crime fiction isn’t really my thing past about two books. So while I enjoyed some Vachss books, I wouldn’t call him my favorite.
(On a side note, Vachss should be commended for all his work for the protection of children. Good work, my friend.)
Back to me. I read an article talking about the success of ‘Twilight’ and what other vampire books should be adapted and ‘Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story‘ was one recommended for its humor. I checked on PaperbackSwap and the reviews were favorable. So I ordered it. After a short wait, it arrived and I read it.
I frickin’ loved it.
Christopher Moore is a genius. His writing flows. And the humor is more witty than ha-ha funny. It’s more a style than just jokes. There were some laugh-out-loud moments, but really it’s just an overall enjoyable read.
But there’s another reason I love Moore’s work. He writes like I wish I could write if I sat down and did it. The style is very me and I love that and am completely jealous of it at the exact same time.
After that first novel, I picked up the sequel, ‘You Suck‘ and enjoyed it also. I just finished ‘A Dirty Job
‘ and that one, so far, is my favorite. But I will be getting everything I can by Christopher Moore now, including a sequel to ‘You Suck’ called ‘Bite Me
‘ coming out next year. W00t!

I absolutely adore Christopher Moore’s books. I think my favorite is the Stupidest Angel, because nothing goes as well with Christmas as a hilarious horror story. Fluke was interesting and had one majorly disturbing scene which I still can’t shake. I can’t wait for the sequel to You Suck.

Thanks Patrick! Always looking for a new author to attack, I mean, read
My hubby and I are reading TA Pratt “Marla Mason” novels to each other during our commute. There’s only 4 in the series, but the main character and her buddies are all very crass and kick a lot of ass.
