We used to go to a chain around here called Winky's. I loved the food, but keep in mind, I was in elementary school. I remember that they were orange and pink and I think their slogan was something like "Be happy that you're hungry." Now where the Winky's used to be there's an Arby's. We don't have any more Rax around here, but I understand they still exist.

Shoneys is still alive and well in the South, East coast style. I passed about 15 from VA to SC. Checkers is also alive and well...the last time I went there was one outside of Philly.

I don't know any of those defunct chains, being a NJ girl. But Ground Round we had - my 6th birthday party was there. And Bonanza sounds familiar, but that could be from visiting my Midwest relatives.

Hmmm chains. We used to have this place called Jim's Burger Haven. It was something alright.

How sad is this? I remember in it's last days Zantigo (which I frequented by the Halls Ferry 6 theater...six screens made it a megaplex in those days)...anyway, they reverted to the all value meal concept and their slogan was "Nothing more than 99 cents...nothing less than great!"

Indeed.

I once threw up with such force after a huge meal at Naugles I blew a piece of french fry out of my nose.

Probably more than you wanted to know...

Coco's Restaurant--their house dressing was to die for! The POST printed a recipe for it a while back. It's loaded with mayo and sour cream, so of course it was good. At least at the location I used to go to in North County, Coco's was paired with JoJos, which was more upscale.

I'd forgotten all about Zantigo. They had awesome taco burritos and chips&cheese.

Shoneys was one of our fallback restaurants when my boys were early elementary school age. We'd turn them loose on the food bar; I think the restaurant probably lost money on our family.

First of all, at Burger Chef, it was Chef and Jeff. Two different guys. One short and out of shape (Chef) the other tall and skinny (Jeff). Why do I remember these things?

Zipps, Checkers, and I think there was another one, were the places with 2 drive throughs and a walk up. Zipps had the best fries!

Bonanza- I think got bought out by Ponderosa.

Sip & Swirl- A southsiders delight! Not fast food, but had a following.

That place on Lindbergh that turned into the Ground Round. Had carnival mirrors out front and you could throw peanut shells on the floor. Loved that place!

Miss Sheri's Cafeteria is gone.

I'll keep thinking on it. This is fun!

LOL, I remember Naugles! When I was little and lived in California, my dad used to stop there every Saturday after I went swimming and get me a drink. :)
