Google Couldn’t Get Clearance?
Here’s something weird. I was surfing this evening looking for a bar a friend described and using Google with the ultra-cool Street View. Anyway, I go and look at there’s a bus in the shot. It was a bus that has that full image coverage, usually for mesothelioma lawyers or Western Union or such. This bus was for my46 and featured the cast of ‘Scrubs’ on the side. Except that Sarah Chalke was blurred out. I’m going to assume the bus had her image fine and Google had to blur it.
But why?
Did Google have to approach all the people pictured and get individual clearances? If so, that seems incredibly inefficient. Wouldn’t they have just had to ask the producers of ‘Scrubs’? And if so, wouldn’t that be everybody on the show?
Weird.
Here’s the picture if you’re interested.

I don’t think it was a “had to”. When Streetview first came out, there were people concerned over their privacy (you could make the argument that they’re visible from a public space, so they’re fair game). Google responded with some automatic software that analyzes the photos for face-like shapes and blurs them, automatically. Why didn’t it recognize the other people’s faces? No idea — perhaps they were broken up enough by the shapes on the bus.

Looks like they couldn’t get that Still Standing guy’s clearance either.. You would think they would want all the free publicity they can for that stinker..

What I think is even more odd is that for the first time ever last night, I was turned on to the magical and wonderful ‘Street View’! Too funny, I never knew it existed until last night and here’s your post!
Did you do your house yet? I did mine and my car is out front in some of the shots. As you move through the scenes, they do use different takes from the same areas so in one shot something will be there but if you turn it the items disappear. I’m still looking to see someone I know! Very cool, indeed.

The first thing I did when I heard about this was go to all the places we frequent, but alas, no me. I think it’s hysterical that just Sarah Chalke is blurred out. Maybe she’s blurred on the bus, not by google
