Sometimes I Enjoy Whiny British Rock…

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

This is my last music post for today, sponsored by the fine folks at Get Me In! They sell concert tickets of all shapes and sizes including Oasis tickets.

Oasis is one of those bands I really have to be in a mood for. And usually, that mood is somber. Sometimes, I need thrashing metal, sometimes it’s easy like the Goo Goo Dolls and sometimes, it’s whiny British bands like Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead and those type bands. You know what I mean.

One more thing about Oasis. And I guess this makes me not that good a judge of music. I’ve read from many sources that ‘Be Here Now’ is considered not their best work. Some sites call it downright awful. But one of my favorite tracks, ‘Don’t Go Away’, comes from that album. Does that make me not musically savvy? Hmmm…

Seven Things About Miley…

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

I’m continuing my sponsored posts today about music, thanks to the wonderful folks at Get Me In! If you need to get your hands on some Miley Cyrus Tickets, give them a try.

So, speaking of Miley Cyrus, I have to say that I have one of her albums in my music library. Now we all know my love of ‘pop tarts’, but I actually think Miley stands out amongst the army of teen recording artists and I thought I would lay it out using the concept of one of Miley’s popular hits.

  1. Distinctive voice – like it or hate it, Miley has a very distinctive voice. The drawl drives some people insane, but I find it genuine. It also makes her music very easy to distinguish from the clones on the radio who all sound pretty much like Britney.
  2. Hard worker – she’s been on television for years and regardless of the quality of her shows, she has brought a lot of entertainment to a lot of little girls.
  3. Role model – I have yet to see any real risque pictures (yes, I saw the MySpace pics and they were tame) emerge like there have been for, well, everybody else. Also, unlike fake Katy Perry, Miley owns more than just hot pants and halter tops.
  4. She’s on Twitter – And it’s actually her, not her publicist. And she even responds to some fans on there. That is very cool. Yes, some of the tweets are quite juvenile, but have you read some of mine?

Okay, I only got four, but still, I think she’s alright.

I Like Music…

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

So, recently I’ve been given the opportunity to do some posts about concert tickets. It’s cool. But to keep it from being just ad copy, I thought I’d give it my own spin. So, here is the first of three music posts today, sponsored by Get Me In!. Enjoy.

One of my favorite bands is Pearl Jam. I’ve even requested that No Code be played at my funeral. So, back in the early 2000s, I was lucky enough to get some exceptional Pearl Jam tickets in the front twenty rows at Riverport. It was amazing. Easily, one of my favorite live shows. Pearl Jam is that kind of band.

But enough about the live show. I thought I would give you my favorite Pearl Jam songs and why (in no particular order).

  • ‘Black’ – Every Pearl Jam fan loves this track. It’s about being brokenhearted. I love the bridge: ‘I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be the sun, in somebody else’s sky, but why, why can’t it be mine?’
  • Vs. is one of my favorite albums and has three tracks I love. The opener ‘Go’ I like because it is so frantic. It rips out the gate and doesn’t stop.
  • Later on Vs., you have ‘rearviewmirror’ which is as close as I ever came to adopting an anthem. I’ve documented my love for this song before.
  • ‘Indifference’ ends the album. Somber and very dark. Really good for when you are in a sad mood and want to stew in it.
  • No Code. I love the entire album.
  • From Yield, I love ‘Given To Fly’ and ‘Wishlist’, both because they have hints of hope.

There are more, but that’s the early and mid-career stuff from Eddie and the boys. I would love to see them in concert again…

What To Look For In Hosting…

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

If your looking for web hosting and you haven’t made a decision, perhaps you should think about the things you’re looking for in your hosting company. Here’s some of what KVCHosting offers and my thoughts on each point.

  1. Free hosting with no banner ads – I have a hard time believing this one as I’ve rarely experienced this with hosts. If it’s truly ad-free, that would be pretty sweet. But it’s important to remember that sometimes, you get what you pay for.
  2. Guaranteed 99.99% uptime – This is one of those things that really doesn’t matter until your site has gone offline. I’ve been pretty lucky with my host, so this 99.99% KVCHosting offers is great, as long as its coupled with good service when it does go down.
  3. Level 3 support and 30-minute response time – This is probably the most critical aspect of your hosting. You need to know that when your site is down, you can quickly get it back up. Having a response pre-determined gives you both confidence and a place to begin yelling if your needs aren’t being met.

Those are the the three things I would consider most important in a host. What are your key features you need and what has your experience with your hosts been? Leave it in the comments.

Farm Town Devs In Need Of Picture Book…

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

On Facebook, there is an awesome game called Farm Town. It’s like agricultural crack. Very fun, but a real timesuck and addictive. Tonight, they released all kinds of new stuff, including flowers and more animals. I went to look at the new animals and got the screenshot below. Um, guys, my kids have a book you can borrow if you’re fuzzy on what animal is what animal.
