Sometimes I Enjoy Whiny British Rock…

This is my last music post for today, sponsored by the fine folks at Get Me In! They sell concert tickets of all shapes and sizes including Oasis tickets.

Oasis is one of those bands I really have to be in a mood for. And usually, that mood is somber. Sometimes, I need thrashing metal, sometimes it’s easy like the Goo Goo Dolls and sometimes, it’s whiny British bands like Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead and those type bands. You know what I mean.

One more thing about Oasis. And I guess this makes me not that good a judge of music. I’ve read from many sources that ‘Be Here Now’ is considered not their best work. Some sites call it downright awful. But one of my favorite tracks, ‘Don’t Go Away’, comes from that album. Does that make me not musically savvy? Hmmm…

I never find myself listening to whiny brit rock on purpose. But occasionally, I hear it and think its not bad. Saw a Oasis show on TV. I enjoyed it. Shhh, don’t say anything. I did crank up some Maiden to cleanse myself.

I like Oasis. Not the new album, per se. But I don’t think of them like Coldplay (shudders) or Radiohead. I think Oasis is more rocking than either – again, I despise Coldplay – and Radiohead is certainly more even of a band than Oasis.

But, they are all Brit bands. And maybe I just have a soft spot for “Don’t Look Back in Anger”.

I still love Morning Glory. Or whatever the album was called. Takes me back to the lofty summer of ’96. Good times.

I love singing along to the whiny tunes – but you have to do it in a whiny voice. Very fun! Makes me and whomever is in the car with me laugh quite nicely. Not sure that’s what these artists intended, though. Tee hee!

You like what you like and critics can suck on it. I hate when people say you should or shouldn’t like certain music, books, movies, whatever. You like what you like and if it’s not my taste, so what? If it’s not “technically” perfect or whatever, that’s irrelevant.

I agree with Jami — music is a matter of personal taste and it’s nobody’s business to dictate what you do or do not listen to. However, if you start writing about how much you’re into Backstreet Boys and Miley Cyrus, I will, at the very least, raise an eyebrow at you!
