Bridging The Wii Gap…

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I’ve had this post idea for awhile, but never really had the kahunas to actually post it. But, what have I got to lose, so who cares?

We’re pretty broke these days. That’s not really a shocker, is it? I’ve been moaning about it for months. But that’s not the point. The point is that the oldest likes to go to his friend’s houses and they play games like the Wii. Now because these kids have the systems in their homes, they get to play quite a bit more than my son. So, he pretty much gets his butt handed to him.

Every. Single. Time.

Can you imagine how frustrating it is to play something and get beat every single time and know you’re not going to win? Happens to me in the real world and it sucks. So, when my five-year-old has to go through, it makes me sad. He’s friggin’ five. He should get some occasional joy before the world starts crapping on him 24/7.

So, if you got a couple bucks burning a hole in your pocket, chip in on the sidebar over there? If you think I’m a douche for trying to get a Wii, that’s fine. I have a tough skin and I can take it. If you’re broke, too, we’re cool. Move along to the next post. I know how that goes.

UPDATE: Took down the widget. I just can’t do it. Sorry.

The Battle Rages On…

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

For eons, there have been battles and flame wars that have never died, with neither side giving any concession or compromise to the other. These wars continue to be fueled to this day and, it seems, there will be no peace in the near future.

Some of these battles include:

  • Windows vs. Mac,
  • Boobs vs. Butts,
  • Marvel vs. DC,
  • And the big daddy, Star Wars vs. Star Trek.

This video will probably not help. But it is funny.
(This video may contain spoilers. I don’t know. Haven’t seen ‘Star Trek’.)

Don't Expect This Much...Fast.

Don't Expect This Much...Fast.

The folks over at payperpost have once again asked me to talk about the new version of their service, which they have tentatively called ‘v4.0 alpha’. It’s really a re-thinking of the paid blogging concept and extremely simple. I talked about it back when it was first announced.

What Is It?

The model is simple. Advertisers peruse the blogs and look for sites they want to advertise on. Bloggers list their sites that will accept ads. Both sides stipulate the conditions including nofollow versus follow links and disclosure in-post versus site-wide. PPP merely acts as the middleman.

Cumbersome?

There are no tracking scripts or interstitial ads. It’s a very clean concept if it actually works. I’ve been signed up for awhile, but since it’s still alpha, there is a long way to go. But I like the idea.

The One Issue I Have

There is one caveat that is troublesome to me. The amount of money that you need to have earned to ‘cash out’ is currently set at $50. PPP says this is because of fees, which I totally get. But until you get to that level, you’re not really earning anything. You’ve already done the work, posted it and the advertiser is reaping the benefit of it. And you still haven’t been paid.

But ultimately, that is fixable. PPP needs to work on that issue. Otherwise, I think they have a very workable service if they can keep both sides coming to the table. Want to give it a try? Codes are still available for the alpha, I am told. Take a look.

Bad To Worse…

I’m so angry right now I can barely see straight.

At this point, the only thing that would make me smile was if a bus full of US Bank employees and a bus full of UnitedHealthcare employees and a bus full of Shop ‘n Save employees were involved in a three-bus pileup with no survivors.

Wait, there is one other thing that would make me smile. It involves three airplanes and pretty much plays out like the previous paragraph…

Is This Sexist?

Steve Dallas, Noted Sexist

Steve Dallas, Noted Sexist

I was watching Torchwood the other day on BBC America. They’re catching up to the big miniseries this summer that is season three. Anyway, on the show, Captain Jack Harkness is bisexual. And in the last episode I watched, he kissed a dude.

Here’s the thing. I’m absolutely fine with people being gay. It’s no big deal. I get it. You’re into what you’re into. But I cannot watch it on the television screen myself. I just can’t hang. I guess some people might consider that homophobic, but I don’t think it is. I’m not telling them they can’t kiss. I just don’t want to watch.

Two girls kissing, on the other hand.
Completely. Different. Story.
