Is This Sexist?

Steve Dallas, Noted Sexist
I was watching Torchwood the other day on BBC America. They’re catching up to the
big miniseries this summer that is season three. Anyway, on the show, Captain Jack Harkness is bisexual. And in the last episode I watched, he kissed a dude.
Here’s the thing. I’m absolutely fine with people being gay. It’s no big deal. I get it. You’re into what you’re into. But I cannot watch it on the television screen myself. I just can’t hang. I guess some people might consider that homophobic, but I don’t think it is. I’m not telling them they can’t kiss. I just don’t want to watch.
Two girls kissing, on the other hand.
Completely. Different. Story.

I’m not convinced that’s sexist. Just because you don’t like to watch something doesn’t mean you feel one way or another about the situation.
Personally, I don’t care to watch men kissing each other either. Blame my religious upbringing I suppose. We have an absolutely adoring gay couple that we hang out with. I’ve never seen them kiss in public but they do hold hands and that doesn’t seem odd.
Really makes you think about what is socially acceptable and not necessarily ‘right’ and ‘wrong’.

Just because you’re not into it yourself, you shouldn’t feel bad about it.
A little off-of the sexuality bit, but I despise watching Howie-Do-It, so I just change the channel or turn off the TV.

Not necessarily sexist, but it does imply a double standard.

I’ve always thought that you were an open-minded person and accepting of the differences found from one person to the next.
While it is sort of a double-standard — being totally cool with chics kissing but totally grossed out when dudes do it — I think that’s okay because you can’t help the way you feel; while you don’t want to watch a couple of dudes make out, you aren’t looking down on anyone for doing so.

Not really; seeing two women kiss does nothing for me.
