Time For A Rant…
I’m going to get a little rant-y today, mostly because I’ve been seeing this particular problem crop it’s ugly head a lot lately. And it needs to be nipped in the bud by some of you parents.
There is an etiquette to elevators and buses and some people seem to not understand it. Listen carefully because I’m only going to type this once.
LET THE PEOPLE ON THE BUS OR ELEVATOR OFF BEFORE YOU GET ON!
Are we clear? Do you understand what I’m saying? When the elevator doors open, wait a bloody minute before you starting pushing in. Let the people off first. When the bus pulls up to the curb, WAIT! People need to get off before you get on.
AND TEACH YOUR KIDS THESE RULES, PEOPLE!
They’re not that hard to learn. And they make everyone’s lives easier. Okay? Let’s not have this talk again.

I don’t deal with the bus thing, as I haven’t ridden public transportation since I was a kid, but the elevator thing definitely pisses me off. It is definitely common sense to let people off rather than attempting to squash on with them!

That bothers me too. At school people will try to get off the bus, but the people waiting to get on don’t move out of the way so the ones getting off have to squeeze through them to walk away. It is so annoying.

Ugh – I hate that. Of course, common sense and decency are not in fashion anymore.

One of the things I love love love about Chicago is that people are so polite!
No, really, I mean it – it is the exception (not the rule) when someone is rude and bumbles into you from the elevator or the bus. Even on the EL (one of the commuter trains here). It’s wonderful. People even HOLD DOORS OPEN for each other up here.
I guess when you live with 7 million other people, courtesy goes a long way and makes everyone much more likable.
