I Need An Avatar…
So, if you read me through your feedreader, you may not have seen that at the site, I changed the graphic behind the name of the site (don’t look now…it’s changed back). Normally, I use this area for my pop culture icon of the moment. At one point, it was Voltron. More recently, it’s been Opus from Bloom County.
You know by now that I’m an Obama supporter. So, in honor of the Inauguration, I changed the image of Opus with an ice cream cone to Opus blissfully reclining next to an Obama poster. I dug this and it gave me an idea.
Google calls them doodles. They change the logo for some holidays and historic events. There is an archive for those of you not familiar with these. So, why not me?
But then, the idea went a little further. I don’t really like using copyrighted images in my header. I don’t want to get hit with a cease-and-desist letter and I certainly don’t want to piss off a creator.
So, I need an avatar of my own. Completely of my creation. With a big enough head for some facial expressions. Unfortunately, I have little to no drawing skill. Seriously. So, what’s my best buy for getting an avatar?
You people.
I consulted with Dave of Blogography because his avatar is amazing and he does it all himself on his Mac. I have no such skill. If any of you has some skill with drawing and could draw me an avatar, that’d be awesome. If you know someone, send them this post. I can’t offer any money, but the avatar would be featured here 24/7 and I could provide a link in my sidebar as well. I would want the rights to the character, but I would be happy to provide credit where possible.
Let me know if you can help. If not, we’re still cool.

Good luck with the dadblogging. I’ve been doing it for a while, being a divorced dad. As soon as child support is over I will let fly a big one, that ObamaFans won’t like.

Thanks for commenting. I don’t really understand that last sentence, but all comments are welcome here.

Have you got a picture of yourself? I’m a professional cartoonist and Berke Breathed was one of my favorites back when I drew for newspapers in Wisconsin.
Let me know – always happy to help out!

I’ve gotten two bites off this post. I will get back to you on the concept as soon as I can get some free time. Very busy weekend. On the plus side, I have my first contest coming down the pipe.
