I Know Where You Can Put That Statue, Oscar…

'What do you mean, not nominated?'

'What do you mean we weren't nominated?'

UNBELIEVABLE!

The Academy snubbed ‘The Dark Knight’ with no Best Picture nomination and snubbed Chris Nolan with no Best Director nomination. This is a travesty and an injustice. ‘The Dark Knight’ was an amazing film, but beyond that, it transcended the ‘tights’ genre entirely.

The characters were played magnificently. Heath Ledger (who DID get nominated) took Joker from a just a Batman villain to a maniacal serial killer. As you watched the movie, you really feared for the citizens of Gotham as the Joker raged his war against Batman and society in general.

I was on the edge of my seat for the entire film. The plot twists came fast and furious, and they made sense. You were constantly surprised at every turn. The story was well thought out. By contrast, take ‘Spider-Man 3′, a film I enjoyed. However, at some points, it was just downright ridiculous.

To summarize, I am boycotting the Oscars.
I will not be watching ever again.
Up yours, Academy!

    I fell asleep.

And I’ve fallen asleep twice through ‘Dances With Wolves’ and it won Best Picture. I mean, ‘The Dark Knight’ only grossed $531 million and is the #2 highest grossing film of ALL-TIME. That’s all I’m saying. I fell asleep watching a trailer for ‘The English Patient’ and it won Best Picture.

Hear, hear! Am I a girl-geek who knows more of the batman lore than your average mommy? Sure. But still , this movie had me breathless and sucked in as completely as any movie did.

To respectfully disagree with PyschoSpazMom, this movie enthralled me, challenged me, and totally defied predictability. Beautifully shot, terrifically acted by all parties (thank you, Maggie, for good acting even though your part was totally unnecessary). It had plot, action, humor and even a relevant message. What else do you want??

I *still* haven’t seen the Dark Knight. I wanna though!

I thought it was a fabulous movie. But I also thought Titanic was schlock, and that won Best Picture. Go figure. Chris Nolan should have been nominated. They have done it with pop culture films before, like Titanic, and like Tommy Lee Jones winning for that Harrison Ford flick based on the TV show – The Fugitive.

The Academy has taken to nominating films versus movies, and that’s a wrong turn. You need both to entertain, enlighten, and inspire.

I will be shocked if Heath Ledger doesn’t win. His performance deserves it.

  6. Patrick D. Says:

While his performance was spectacular, sometimes the Academy gives out awards to dead people just cause. I think his death will overshadow the performance, but fans know it was phenomenal.

The bar gets set with Dark Knight for sure. The movie had a few ticks here and there, but the underlying reason it doesn’t get love is that its roots are buried in the colorful pieces of gathered paper in “a child’s hand.”

COMIC BOOK MOVIES = SNUBBERY. Period.

  8. Tina Kubala Says:

Question: How often have you watched the Oscars in the past?

Fact: I threw up on the floor at the theater during “Dances with Wolves”

  9. Patrick D. Says:

Answer: Pretty much every year, except this year. (I love awards shows. What can I say?)

Fact: The human head weighs eight pounds.

  10. Tina Kubala Says:

See, I wouldn’t not have guessed you’d be an award show person. I used to watch the Oscars, but I don’t see enough movies to care anymore.

    My fact was grosser.

Maybe I meant a disconnected head. After the blood has been drained out.
