I Need A Childrens’ Book Expert…

So, for awhile now, I’ve been wanting to get my boys a book that I remember from my childhood. Kind of like passing something on from me to them and maybe they’ll pass it to their kids. You get the idea.

Problem: My parents are both dead. And I can’t remember six years ago, much less to my childhood.

All I can pull from my cobwebbed head is one book with a little boy who, for some reason, has a pet dinosaur (red, I think) and he takes it around his town and mayhem ensues.

Anyone know what book this is? Or am I imagining it?

(UPDATE: Holy crap. It may be Danny and the Dinosaur, but I’m not 100% on this. I keep feeling like the dinosaur was red. Anyone?)

    Since I just read Danny and the Dinosaur about 4x on Wednesday -I can say – nope – he’s not red. He’s green.

    Also- it’s a cute book

    You could try contacting http://bookshelvesofdoom.blogs.com/

    She’s a librarian and specializes in Young Adult but know a lot of kids’ books. My money would have been on Danny myself.

    My money’s on Danny, too, actually — depending on the copy, the dinosaur’s color does vary quite a bit. In the copy I grew up with, he was way more orange than the yellows and greens that show up here, so that could account for the confusion.

    You might want to check in with the Seven Imps — they’re much stronger on the picture books than I am.

    On a Fun Red Dinosaur note, this 2008 title looks like fun: Dinosaur vs. Bedtime

    There was a dino book I loved called (I think), “There’s No Such Thing as a Dragon.” He looked like a dino, and I believe he was red.?.?.? There’s also a whole series of books on this big, red dog called, Clifford…HE HE…maybe you’re mixed up. We already know you’re MESSED up! :)

    The only thing that came to my mind was Pete’s Dragon. I had the book and the record that read the book to you (that’s right. Record. Vinyl). I loooved it. I think Pete’s dragon was purple, though.

    @Chris I have a four-year-old and a two-year-old. Believe me, I know who Clifford is.
