Can We Retire These Words?

As 2008 comes to a close, I realized today that there are words that get used to death. You hear them so much that you begin to cringe when they are uttered. So, in the interests of sanity, I propose we retire these two words for 2009.

  • Rockstar: Whether it’s people calling Barack Obama a rock star or lists like 20 WordPress Rockstars To Read And Follow, people love to slap ‘rock star’ on anything. Knock it off.
  • Gamechanger: Every six minutes during the election, we had to hear about how this side or that side needed a ‘gamechanger’ to get ahead. We get it. It’s a game and one side is behind. Not every play can be a friggin’ Hail Mary. Knock it off.

Hey! It’s a bonus!
Possibly the most famous Hail Mary in football history!

You may submit your nominations for words to retire in the comments section. I’ll throw them at the TV stand and see what sticks…or is that a flagpole? (Also, w00t is exempt from consideration. So there!)

The husband and I think “amazing” is definitely one of the most overused words! Drives us crazy!

I’m about tired of people saying, “I know, RIGHT?” or “apparently”. Although I’m guilty myself of that last one. I’m ready to let it go if everyone else is…

Apparently, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. I know, right?
