Check For A Package…
So on Twitter today, somebody linked to a site called GenderAnalyzer. The site claims that it can determine whether a blog is authored by a man or a woman. I decided to test it and entered the Patrick Says URL.

That’s good. It’s accurate, although my manhood would have liked a little higher percentage. So then I try my tech blog, Patrick Talks Tech. And I get a better score: ‘We think http://www.patricktalkstech.com is written by a man (81%).’
So then I opt to test it out with a few of my female friend’s blogs and see what we get. First up, my friend Jessica. She gets this: ‘We guess http://www.jessicahickok.com is written by a man (56%), however it’s quite gender neutral.’ Ouch. Strike one, but even the program knows it’s not perfect.
Then I try Becca’s blog. ‘We think http://beccagirlblogspot.blogspot.com is written by a man (86%).’ Wow. Not even friggin’ close. Strike two.
I give it one more try with Boobs, Injuries and Dr. Pepper. And finally, it gets a hit: ‘We guess http://boobsinjuriesanddrpepper.blogspot.com/ is written by a woman (51%), however it’s quite gender neutral.’ It’s a hit, but barely.
So, it’s one out of three, or if you factor in mine, it’s correct on two of four. That’s 50% and that’s not even close to accurate. Folks, you may want to tweak the database a little. Cool idea, though.
On an unrelated note, diet pills are for dieting and not for giving out as Halloween candy. Just wanted to make that clear in case there was doubt for next year.

Did you write about ‘Twilight’ again? That should be an instant 65% jump toward ‘woman’.

What’s Twilight? I wonder what info they use to determine the gender of the creator. I mean, I can’t remember many of my topics having a male slant. I suppose there’s a good bit of subject matter that’s gender neutral. Who knows! Interesting concept though…

Twilight is some vampire something or other. It’s like ‘The Notebook’ but with blood or something. I don’t know. Try Wikipedia…they know stuff

I’m so quoting you. “It’s like ‘The Notebook’ but with blood” Love it!
The Analyzer worked for my blog (69%) and my husband’s (79%). Nifty.

I tried Gothic Peach (man), Bloody Kisses (man), Got Wicca (man), and Charity Lynn (woman). Only one of the four were right and all of them are my blogs. And it said Charity Lynn is gender neutral. Um, hello? I don’t recall ever hearing of a MAN named Charity Lynn!

WHAT?!? All I talk about is shoes, lip gloss and my crazy mother!! 56% written by a man?! Oh that must be because I tend to drop a little too much “WTF” attitude that is not becoming of a woman. Even the internet is sexist.

They were 70% sure I’m a chick, and I didn’t even mention Twilight once. Strangley, my blog is done in pinks, which if you know me is completely out of character. I don’t own any pink any thing.
