Your Post Title Conventions…
I was thinking today about starting a second blog. It’s an idea I’ve toyed off and on with. I think I’m getting closer to the reality of it. Anyway, that got me thinking about the different ways people title their blog posts. So here’s a round-up of a couple of my blogging friends and how they name their posts.
One idea I absolutely plan to steal is from EDW. Her blog, appropriately titled ‘The World According To EDW’, is a good read. For her post titles, she uses a song lyric. Sometimes they’re obscure, sometimes they’re blatantly obvious, but either way, it’s cool.
Jami has a unique post title convention also. For her posts on ‘The Very Important Thoughts Of Jami’, she goes all Elmo-style and writes the title in the third person always with her name first, for example, Jami Writes The Alphabet or Jami Talks With Mr. Noodle.
Cinders, back when she blogged more regular on ‘adventures in blah blah land’, always put her posts titles in all lowercase. That may be fairly common, but in my feed reader, it was usually pretty easy to pick out a new post from Cinders.
So, what convention do I use? Ah, that’s easy. It’s the three periods after nearly every title. It used to be a play on when the blog was titled ‘Patrick Says…’. The only time I don’t use the three periods is when the title is a question or an exclamation. Then it’s a question mark or an exclamation point, for example, ‘Hey Is That Acne Cream In Your Pocket?’.

I don’t think that I really have a title convention, though I do have a few series that I use consistent titles on.
However, I did once create a generic post for a common posting style I had. Strangely, I’ve rarely used it since.

I usually pick out a word or two from the post, but not necessarily.
and I did start a second blog, in which the Title & the theme work off the alphabet. lettersinmysoup.blogspot.com. there’s a small group of alpha-bloggers I cyberhang with (besides you guys, of course!)

Jami talks to Mr Noodle…bwahahaha! You know I title my posts like that because otherwise I’d go insane trying to title them. It was pure laziness, but it works!

Jami names her titles in the third person because of a huge ego and because coming up with clever and fun titles is hard. I started off trying to think of something amusing that hinted at the content without giving anything away. But that’s, like, work.

I don’t usually have a title theme…mostly because I don’t know what the hell I”m going to be talking about until I’m already typing.
But if I do have a theme it’ll most likely start with “On….”
But you knew that.
