That’s Not More Like It, Kohl’s…
My work location has changed. It’s sweet. The commute is WAY shorter. I have a bigger office. It’s cool. I am really digging it. The other day, I wanted to get a ‘feel’ for the land, so I walked (yes, tubby can actually walk) over to the strip mall across the street.
But first, I visited the Kohl’s next to the strip mall. See, I needed a watch battery replaced from a watch The Wife gave me years ago. I figure Kohl’s can handle it. I go to the jewelry counter and Ms. Corn Cob Up The Wahzoo (I don’t think that was her real name) tells me she can’t change the battery if I didn’t buy the watch at Kohl’s.
WTF? This is the stupidest logic I’ve ever heard. Apparently, they’re afraid that it might get broke. I’ll sign a waiver; change my darn battery. No dice.
This is ridiculous. Can you imagine if this logic were applied elsewhere?
- You take your car to the mechanic because it’s doing that sputtering thing. ‘I’m sorry, but I can’t fix the car because you didn’t buy it here.’
- You go to the doctor with a broken arm or a contusion to the head. ‘Were you born in this hospital? No? Sorry, can’t help you.’
- And in the end, I suppose, your family members take your body to a funeral home. The funeral director says, ‘I’m sorry, but unless we killed him here, you can’t bury him here. Sorry. It’s a liability issue.’
Up yours, Kohl’s!

I don’t think it’s just Kohl’s. That type of thing has happened to me several times before…of course I can’t remember which stores. I love Kohl’s and Target, so your battery trauma isn’t gonna scare me away!

Wow! These stores are tired of getting messed around, I suppose. My cousin just had a baby and one of the places she registered was Target. Well, we invited people from both sides of her family and church from near and far. After the shower, they discovered they had multiples on some of the gifts that were purchased for them at Target but were NOT on her registry. Since they didn’t have a receipt and the item was not on her registry, they would not return it because it was over $20. What? She tried to tell them she would just do an exchange or get a gift card to use later, no can do.
Oh well, it happens. Just take it back to Walmart, they don’t care if you bought it there or not! LOL

toys-r-us was just as bad - and i even had a receipt! But since it was past the 30 days (uh, geeze, i had a BABY) I couldn’t return the item, couldn’t exchange it, couldn’t even get a credit. They even still carried the EXACT same item, same packaging, etc. Bastards. I refuse to shop there anymore.

I agree, Wendy. Thirty days seems a little short considering the nature of the store. Go figure…

Wal-Mart is horrible about that. I took my watch in, which I bought there no less, and they insisted that they’d never carried that watch. I finally had to inform them that they HAD in fact carried the watch and that I’d bought it seven years ago before they’d moved into their current location.
And returning stuff there - yeesh. They don’t require a receipt (you get it on gift card if you don’t have one) but they do scan it to make sure they actually sell the item. And it has to be a CURRENT item for sale. If they don’t carry it anymore, forget it, even if you do have a receipt.
I don’t go to Kohl’s or Target because they’re both too high priced for me. That and here, their service sucks.
