I don’t think this is going to have the effect that they are seeking. If everyone did spend the $600 maybe it would have some impact but better yet there should be money thrown at insuring loans for the subprime crisis as well as corporate financing. Everyone in the credit markets are scared and so business can’t borrow money to keep shops open to obtain people’s $600!

Well, since we filed an extension it’s not like I’ll see that check before the end of the year anyway, but I think I’ll be saving it to pay my 2008 taxes next April!

Cinders, I agree completely. By design, bank fee structures are built to screw the consumer. For example, banks will run the withdrawals before the deposits if the too hit the same day.

We heard a guy from the Humane Society say that they hope people will use their economic stimulous money to adopt a pet. Look, if you need that check to get a $50 dog from the pound, then you shouldn’t be getting any pet. Not even a pet rock. You can’t afford it.

Reminds me of an episode of The West Wing where a young man uses his stimulus check on paying down his student loans or something like that. The president sighs and says, “couldn’t you have spent it on a DVD player?”

How bout next time they just keep the money and buy me what they think I should buy? Oh wait, then they’d have to blame themselves when it doesn’t actually stimulate the economy instead of blaming us.

I’ve been doing NOTHING but stimulating the economy for what… the last year. I’m getting a little tired of having to do it by myself.

I find it hilarious that the country is in such debt yet the government just decides to hand out mad money to the entire country. I think its awesome that money is just theoretical to them… its a completely intangible thing, but if I overdraw my bank account by ten dollars, there’s a good chance it will cost me $100 in fees.

This point is brought up in the (well, I thought it was called “cycle of stuff” but I can’t find it now…20 min presentation by a lady who dedicated her research to finding out where ’stuff’ comes from and where it ends up – the whole lifecycle of things we buy and then throw away). Anyhow, she says in there that after 9/11, what did our Pres do? Did he say – Have Hope! or Trials make us Stronger! or anything like that…nope…he said to SHOP.
