Yes, I Owned A Culture Club Album…
So, everyone has that first album they got. You remember it? Remember how excited you were? Remember how you played it to death until even you were sick of it? Well, my first album was Quiet Riot’s ‘Metal Health’. You may remember it for the cover of Slade’s ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’.
But just behind it, literally by minutes, was the Culture Club album, ‘Kissing To Be Clever’. Bear in mind this was 1983 and I was like, thirteen. I had no idea what the whole dressing like a chick thing meant. I can only imagine what my mom thought. Regardless, I dug the music and played that LP to death…along with the Quiet Riot.
In that same rotation, by the way, were The Police’s ‘Synchronicity’ and some Weird Al album, the one with ‘Eat It’ on it. Maybe this explains my eclectic taste in music now. Hmmm…
Here are videos from both albums. Fire up the Wayback machine!
You know, Boy George kind of reminds of this girl I went to high school with. I can’t mention her name in case she reads this blog. But it’s not really that much of an insult. Boy George is kind of an attractive-looking chick…wow, that sounded way gay-er than it was meant to…eh, never mind.
Here’s a picture of UK glamour model Keeley Hazell (mildly NSFW) just to prove I’m all man. So there. And you’re welcome, gentlemen.
(Patrick’s note: This post is meant to be humorous. If you were offended, you don’t get the jokes. That just confirms I’m a crappy writer. It doesn’t make me a homophobe. Thank you. Good night!)

Whoa…speaking of “Synchronicity” – just this past weekend I was going through some of my downloaded music and considered deleting a folder titled “Culture Club – The Best Of” but then I realized it also had videos in it. I put on the video for “Karma Chameleon” and found myself unable to stop watching. Memories…

I think my first two albums were Thriller…and…yes, I loved my Quiet Riot Mental Health! Can’t say I ever owned anything Boy George, but I did like his tunes.
Also, I was very offended…I’m quite sensitive you know…NOT!

I can remember begging a friend to play Karma Chameleon over and over on her boom box. She got sick of it before I did. I still have no idea why his dreams were red, gold, and green.

I think mine was Colour by Numbers….too funny! My sister claims that she was so tired of hearing it that she got MJ’s Thriller just to annoy me (not because she liked it) HA

I think mine was Thriller. Second, maybe Cindy Lauper?
I loved that Quiet Riot song. And I love in The Wedding Singer when the guy in Sandler’s band keeps singing “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me”. Hilarious stuff.
You inspired my post for today – my dirty music secrets were so embarrassingly awful, I had to share them.

At a friend’s birthday party, I won the first game and we had our choice of prizes, including: the vinyl single “Maneater”. For albums, I think my first one was actually one of the Monkees’ albums. I was totally in to them in the 80s.

Wow! I forgot all about Boy George and his band. I wonder what he’s been up to lately!

I think my first album was the Bangles album with Manic Monday on it….I don’t remember it but I loved it to death.

One of my first was (a 45) ‘Heartbreaker’ by Pat Benatar. All the kids on our block (2 + my brother) would come over to our house and we’d perform it live in our living room. I was the only girl in the neighborhood so I always sang, of course. My brother played guitar, Brian played bass and Billy played drums (I think). Anyway, we would play it over and over and over! I feel sorry for my poor mom who had to listen to it LOL The second one I remember is ‘Funky Town’ by Lipps Inc. Wow, talk about memories! I can just hear that techno sound and I’m 9 again in my living room opening the wooden top to my dad’s stereo where the record player lived. I can still remember that old crackly sound as the needle would be gently placed at the beginning of the album. You never knew when it would start but once it did, wow, we were jammin’!! Good times, indeed.

Mine was Thriller. And I still maintain it’s one of the best albums ever! Boy George had a Broadway project with Rosie O’Donnell kind of recently I think.

my first album was Queen – the Game, and I won it from the local radio station in 6th grade. the first one I remember buying is Air Supply – Lost in Love, on cassette–I wore it out within 2 years. That’s probably the most embarrassing one, too … my sister did the Quiet Riot/Beastie Boyz/Thriller thing, not me.
