Statue of Liberty

So, on the way into work everyday, I usually come in Brentwood Blvd. As you’re heading north on Brentwood, you pass Manchester. If you keeping looking to the right, you will see a guy dressed as the Statute of Liberty. I believe the place is a tax preparation service. I see the same guy every morning. Normally, it’s a white guy in his late-twenties or maybe mid-thirties. And he’s just waving to the traffic. And it’s always the same guy.

On Friday, our phone and data were down and we could get nothing done. So we all left. As I was driving home, I noticed there was a different dude wearing the costume. Now this guy was younger. He was an African-American, maybe early-twenties…I’m not that good a judge of age. But what I noticed was dude was scratching his butt. On Brentwood Blvd. In massive traffic.

Listen, I understand that sometimes, you’ve got an itch. And you need to scratch it. We’ve all been there. But if you’re going to wear the outfit of one of the most recognizable symbols of America, then for Pete’s sake, let it wait. You can’t have Lady Liberty standing, torch in one hand, other hand deep in butt. It’s just not good for America. The real Statue of Liberty would never scratch her butt in public. She’d wait…at least until they got some scaffolding up.

But hey, she’s a classy lady. Not quite a SILF, but very classy.

Like Superheroes? Play This Contest!

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Storm of the X-MenTwo websites I read, Panels of Awesome! and For The Love of Comics are sponsoring a very cool contest, the Awesome Arena Tournament of Champions. They are even offering prizes, although I haven’t really looked at what they are..sue me…I’m playing for fun…although if I win a prize, I will take it.

Anyway, head over to either site and check the rules. The contest involves taking the poll and commenting on the two blogs. Additional points can be garnered by pimping the contest (like I’m doing right now). So play and win…if you want. I didn’t look at the bracket, but I’m guessing Storm isn’t in the contest.

A Message From The Hippie In Me…

I think we spend too much time hating.

We hate that guy who cut us off getting on the highway.
We hate our boss for making us work late.
We hate that jerk on the radio criticizing your presidential candidate.

I think we hate because deep down, people enjoy hating. Some use it for motivation, some use it for entertainment and some just use it to alleviate the boredom of regular life. I have been guilty of all these reasons. You probably have too. Heck, some of you probably hate the truth in those statements.

My son gets it though. Tonight, he pops out with the line: ‘I love you, dad.’ Not because he’s done something wrong. Not because he wants something. But simply a pure declaration of fact. To which, of course, I reply: ‘I love you too.’ We could use more of that in the world. Less hate, more love. I can’t promise I’ll try, but maybe…
