Novel Excerpt…

Okay, here’s a treat (maybe). Here are the first couple paragraphs from the as-yet-untitled novel I’m working on. Enjoy. Or don’t.

Chapter One

LUCAS BROTHERS COMPUTERS

That’s what the sign above the store said. Jack Lucas stared up at the sign in satisfaction.

Finally, he thought.

He and his brother, Karl, had been running a small computer business for the last three years. It had been going well, but never well enough for an actual office with a sign. The two brothers had both been into computers since they were nine and six and Mom brought home a secondhand Commodore 64. They tricked that machine out as much as a Commodore 64 can be tricked out. Later, they pursued careers as adults. Karl joined the Air Force and Jack went into journalism.

Karl had stuck it out for eight years, but ultimately, the discipline got to him and he didn’t reenlist for a third term. Jack had worked at several small magazines and had moderate success, but he found the work not nearly as rewarding as tinkering inside technology. In 2005, the two of them decided to work together. They found clients and kept themselves busy, each trying to forget something.

I’m not really looking for feedback. This is more me just wanting to show the world it has begun. See you on the other side.

Hey, you’re doing better than I am.

    ;)

I’d say it’s going well! I just want to know when you’re going to finish it and if you’re going to make us pay for it!

  3. Patrick D. Says:

Well, I’ve had some setbacks. Going to try and get it back on track this weekend.

If I finish it, I may self print it. There is a site that binds books pretty cheaply. I saw another blogger use it to ‘create’ their own book.

I think it’ll be great! Just do what you can, the rest will get done when it gets done. Just don’t stop on it altogether, you owe it to yourself to get it out there on paper-or computer, but you know what I mean LOL
