Late Again…

I swore I wouldn’t go to bed until I gave you people something…

Tonight was a good night. And those are rare. The Wife and I had a friend over to watch the kids so we could ‘go out’ for dinner and some fun. Some people are creatures of habit and I am one of them. I don’t really like new places. If you give me any fast food joint, I can give you my standard order right now. Here, I’ll prove it:

  • Jack In The Box: Grilled Sourdough Jack meal, substitute in curly fries with a Diet Coke and two regular tacos.
  • McDonalds: McGrilled McChicken McClub Meal with a McDiet Coke and one Honey McMustard Chicken McWrap, also McGrilled.

And that’s just two places. Anyway, we were going more upscale, so I default to P.F. Changs, Outback Steakhouse or Applebee’s. But she wanted different. So we went to the Elephant Bar Restaurant. It’s basically an Outback Steakhouse, but remove the Australian theme and drop in an African/Asian theme. It was pretty alright. I had a pork steak thing fire-grilled in miso or something or other. It was actually very tasty. Our server was a little slow, but overall, an enjoyable experience.

We still had plenty of time to kill and decided to visit this family fun center we’ve passed a million times before. This place was awesome. They had indoor batting cages, where I racked up a pathetic 3 hits out of 20 pitches, baby! They had an arcade. They also had, and this was our main reason for coming, an 18-hole miniature golf course.

We got our clubs and balls and hit the greens. The course was fantastic. A lot of miniature golf course are sloppily thrown together, but this one had a lot of thought put into it. It had water traps, sand traps and obstacles. The turf itself had seen better days, but it played well. Ultimately, I won the ‘Miniature Golf Champion Of The World’ title and will be having business cards printed soon.

We got an Icee and headed home. All in all, pretty good night.

One swell way to spend quality time with your significant other. Doing stuff like this make bonds between couples even more stronger. Great date ideas for other couples out there.

Glad you guys had a good time. You deserve a night out.

Champion of the world? You won by one hole!! But at least I totally kicked your butt at air hockey!!

Glad you guys had fun, you should get more dates out together! I could imagine what it’s like to go for months and months without time alone. Maybe next time you guys can get a sitter and come out bowling on the second Monday of the month? (*wink, wink*) (ask the wife)

Hmm I have never heard of the Jack’s one but that sounds nice. You’ve got me all hungry now…!

I like that you guys just had simple fun without overcomplicating things.

(PS. In Aus we don’t have Outbeak Steakhouse but I have seen the menu — people bring it back as a souvenir from the USA — and it looks tasty!)

    The Wife: You call 7-6 a butt-kicking? Puh-lease!

Jonk: That’s funny about the menu. But when I was in Saudi Arabia, I took a McDonald’s tray liner because it was in all Arabic, so I guess it’s about perspective.

Somehow I feel sad that I’ve never been to a Jack-in-the-Box. I have a friend with a “standard order” at every restaurant we go to. It got to the point that he would call the place the name of what he got there: “Hey, where do you want to go to lunch? Cheeseburger hoagie place or Good General Tsao’s chicken place?” But hey, he knows what he likes.

The rest sounds like fun – good for you for getting out there!

I always thought I was the only person with a set of “standard” orders. Take me to a Denny’s or similar place, I’ll look the menu over, but order a club sandwich every single time.

Jack in the Box – Jumbo Jack combo, curly fries, three piece egg roll…

It’s better than making decisions every time.

Tina: Exactly, and you already know what you like at most of the fast food joints.
