My Displeasure With US Bank

Okay, I am so mad right now I cannot see straight. Get this…US Bank charged me $34 for a negative balance THAT NEVER ACTUALLY HAPPENED! See if you can follow this…

On 04/27/07, my balance was around $9 (I play it close, so shut up). There was $9 in the account. There were pending transactions totaling $20. Note that these were pending and HAD NOT YET OCCURRED. The next business day, my paycheck dropped in and shot me well into the black. So I was assessed a $34 fine for NOTHING! It’s a virtual fine…that I have to pay.

I AM PULLING MY MONEY OUT OF YOUR BANK!
I HOPE YOUR BANK EXECUTIVES
CHOKE ON HAM SANDWICHES!
I HOPE BAD THINGS HAPPEN
TO YOU AND ONLY YOU!

(Added: I can’t believe I forgot this. An organization that I must leave nameless recently left US Bank. One of the many reasons was that US Bank shredded a deposit containing real checks that totalled over $13,000 causing the organization to have to contact each check issuer and request replacement checks. Ha. Ha. Jerks. Thought that would never get out, did ya?)

    Banks SUCK.

I am the queen of paying everything down – leaving little balance. Whenever we have a lot of checks, and cash sitting in there, the teller will say to me, you know, you could open a money market account, get interest on this – since I have so much in there. And I will laugh in her face, because it’s all going out ASAP.

Get them to reverse it. Call a manager. I’ve done that before.

I’m waiting for Cinders to get wind of this. I know she’s a big fan of US Bank.

This is just one of the MANY reasons I had to leave them, followed by my mom, and anyone else who’d listen! If you didn’t have direct deposit, they would have held your check deposit until the middle of next week and would have had several hundred dollars in fees. I call this “Holding my deposit for ransome.”
They can kiss mine too…just for the bad memories this drudges up!!!
They have a horrible way of doing business with people. I’m surprised they are still open!

I love my credit union :D

Are you sure the transactions were pending? I worked at a bank (quit today)… and I saw a lot of people who would call at 7pm and ask what their balance was. I’d also tell them they had pending transactions that could clear later on in the night.

IF they did clear that night (which could actually end up clear as late 3am EST as the banks servers were on PST time). Even if the direct deposit was coming through the next day it wouldn’t cover the balance.

Sounds like that’s what happened here? The only way to know if they didn’t clear the previous day is to call up to the end of their ‘batch’ processing time. Not to mention, what is the date on your online banking that the ‘pending’ transactions posted to your account?

If you call again, politely ask for a manager and ask if the manager could waive the fee. Your bank may have a policy were the tier 1 bankers may not be able to waive fees but if you’re courteous to the manager they’ll probably give you a one time courtesy waiver if you don’t normally overdraw your account.

In response to beccagirl, banks are legally entitled to hold your cash up to 14 business days. Best way to avoid holds on payroll checks is by using direct deposit. Contrary to the myth, payroll checks ARE allowed to be placed on hold by the bank.

    Correction…

Banks are legally entitled to hold your payroll checks.
