Conversations With A Two-Year-Old…

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Me: Son, do you know why you were in timeout?
The Boy: Yes.
M: Why?
B: I don’t know.
M: Because you’re not listening and not paying attention. You need to do what you’re told and you need to listen to me and your mother.
B: Okay. Can I have a sucker?
M: Son, are you paying attention?
B: Yes.
M: Then why were you in timeout?
B: Can I have a sucker???
M: Son, you’re not listening. Why were you in timeout?
B: I don’t know. Can I have a sucker?
M: No. Go play…

Two-year-olds are fun.

Me & The Boob Tube, Part 3….

Another one of my favorite shows is The Office. I liked the British version and after the debacle that Coupling was when it was adapted, I was worried. I watched the first episode of The Office (US) and was disappointed. It was nearly word-for-word, a rewrite. But something happened…

It got better. Slowly, it separated itself from the British version and began to stand on its own. As the writers felt out the characters and really made them different from their UK counterparts, the show became funny. Now, it’s one of the first things we watch on the TiVo when it records.

The clip I’ve chosen is from a great episode. In this episode, Michael is calling into the office because he’s had an accident at home and needs help.

This series has only gotten better, episode after episode. Kudos to all those involved.

Me & The Boob Tube, Part 2….

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

Second up is Battlestar Galactica. Wow. Frakkin’ wow. This show is a remake of the 70’s show of the same name, but it is a vastly different retelling. It’s dark, dark, dark. It’s very real in the way the humans deal with their predicament and each other. The Cylons are multi-dimensional where they had no depth in the original. The characters are rich and the storylines are deep. I have found myself actually sitting on the edge of my seat watching this show.

In these two scenes from ‘Exodus, Part Two’, the Galactica is attempting to liberate the humans from the Cylon-controlled New Caprica. The Galactica makes a full-balls-on move to drop into the atmosphere, deploy Vipers and jump out. Breathtaking! Then later in that episode, the Galactica is severely damaged and all seems lost when the Pegasus, helmed by Adama’s son Lee, comes to the rescue. Check it out…

Me & The Boob Tube, Part 1…

Well, the end of the year is upon us and I thought I should do some kind of wrap up of something. I love TV and since we’re about midway through the television season, I’d thought I’d share my five favorite shows with you, with the help of YouTube.

First up is Scrubs. Scrubs is an amazing show. It’s primarily a comedy, but it’s more a dramedy as this clip shows. Dr. Cox had transplanted some organs from a patient that turned out to have rabies. Two patients had died and a third he really had come to like, was doing badly. J.D. desperately tries to get him out of the hole and well, watch the clip.

It’s very powerful. The show is hilarious as well. It isn’t all dark and depressing. Give it a try if you haven’t watched it. It’s in syndication now, so it’s all over the place.
