Buddha Assembles A Bike

Here’s a picture of me assembling a bicycle at a work-related event. Man, I am seriously fat.

Me and four other bloggers did a CD exchange. It was kinda cool. I’d probably do it again if given the opportunity. I thought I’d share my playlist of songs with everyone so you could see what I like. Here’s the explanations as I sent them to my friends with the CD.

1. O-o-h Child - The Five Stairsteps (1970) – Whenever I feel anxious, this song calms me. I must have heard when I was very young and it somehow stuck.

2. Father of Mine – Everclear (1997) – I have some father issues (it’s in the blog) and Art Alexakis is right there with me.

3. Rock & Roll High School - The Ramones (??) – In the seventies, rock and roll was dying at the hands of disco. The Ramones saved rock and roll.

4. Caroline - Concrete Blonde (1990) – This song takes me back to living in Texas early in my military career.

5. Enough - Gravity Kills (1996) – The first of three Saint Louis bands (all defunct now, ironically) that rock. Gravity Kills is hard and fast. This is my favorite track.

6. Night Moves - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band (1977) – We used to play this song a lot on the bus going back to the dorms in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War.

7. The Geeks Get the Girls - American Hi-Fi (2005) – The piano opening is awesome and this is truly the geek anthem.

8. Ready To Die - Andrew W. K. (2001) – Andrew W.K. makes me thrash like an idiot in my car driving home. Thrash at your own risk.

9. Fire Woman - The Cult (1989) – Nobody screams a song like The Cult. Another song I played non-stop in Saudi Arabia.

10. Understand - Radio Iodine (1997) – Another Saint Louis band popular in the late 90’s when alternative rock was at its peak.

11. God Said No - Dan Bern (2001) – I heard this song on the Cinecast podcast. I’m not a folk guy, but this is a great track.

12. Justified and Ancient - The KLF (1991) – How can you not love a track featuring the KLF and Tammy Wynette? I dare you to not hum this song after hearing it.

13. Become What You Hate – Midtown (2002) – You’ve probably never heard of Midtown, but I like them.

14. Alive & Amplified - The Mooney Suzuki (2004) – You probably heard this song on a recent car commercial. I did and this is the full version in all its glory.

15. Light & Day/Reach For The Sun - The Polyphonic Spree (2003) – The Polyphonic Spree is like a 22-piece choir/band that plays hippie-inspired music. I like it cause it’s light and fun and kinda uplifting.

16. Liar Liar - The Urge (2000) – The last of the Saint Louis bands. The Urge were legendary in Saint Louis. They put on an amazing live show. If you want more of the Urge, let me know and I’ll send you a whole CD.

17. Rearviewmirror - Pearl Jam (1993) – My theme song for awhile. I love the line: “I gather speed, from you fucking with me.”

18. Halfway To Heaven - Tasmin Archer (1992) – I discovered Tasmin Archer while stationed in Italy. She had one hit in the States called ‘Sleeping Satellite.’ The whole album is great and this is one of my favorites.

19. Asking You – Lennon (2001) – Lennon was an artist promoted heavily in magazines and on MTV2 back in 2001. She never really took off, but she was the real deal.

20. I’m Not Okay (I Promise) - My Chemical Romance (2004) – Latest song I love screaming in the car. Plus the F-bomb never hurts.
